Student mobility

The University of Valparaíso acknowledges the importance of the student mobility in order to deliver an integral education to our students in the context of a growing and complex society in a globalized world.

The unit of international student mobility administrates the international undergraduate exchange program, in the context of the agreements signed with prestigious foreign educational institutions. Currently, we have 68 exchange programs with 60 universities from Germany, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, France, Finland, Italy, Israel, Sweden, United States, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. This unit allows our students to perform activities with academic acknowledgement in foreign universities, the students must get into a study program previously approved by the direction of each career and after that the career recognize the studies abroad.

The foreign students that decide to study in the Valparaíso University will be under the care of this unit, which would be in charge of their application, integration and support during their visit in the country.

  

Our University

The Valparaiso University was founded in 1981 and at that time it was one of the most important branches of the Chile University in regions, it is a state education institution, autonomous and certificated, its tradition comes from 1911 when the Fiscal Law Class was created in Valparaiso, which is where our Law faculty started.

In this university we develop activities of education, research and extension in all the 9 faculties; we have 41 undergraduate programs and 32 postgraduate programs, in order to satisfy completely its 18 thousand students and the necessities and interests of the country and mainly of the Valparaiso region.

Based on the essential principles of freedom, democracy and pluralism, this university is committed with the development of the culture, trying to integrate sciences, arts, and humanities, using its history and incorporating the new scientific findings, contributing to the evolution and progress of the society.

The Academic Division, through its International Student Mobility Unit invites all foreign students interested in international experience with academic recognition at the Universidad de Valparaíso.

Calendar of Nomination

For the exchange from the first semester academic in Chile (March to July), the application deadline is October 15 the year before the exchange. Accepted answer: second week of January

For the exchange from the second academic semester in Chile (August to December), the application deadline is April 15 for the exchange year. Answer nomination: Second week of June

Exchange by agreement

If you are a student from a foreign university in which the UV has an exchange agreement, to apply you must follow these steps:

  1. Complete the attached application form. The required academic information can be found at: http://www.uv.cl/carreras

  3. Delivery the complete application form to the person in charge at your university of these processes is generally the Student Mobility Officer or International Relations, since the nomination must come with your college sponsorship. We do not received applications from students without evidence of having been selected by their home university.

  16. When Universidad de Valparaíso will get you bid in the session Consultation for the interest of students, who are confirming the nomination or not.

With the approval of the sessions of Universidad de Valparaíso, the International Student Mobility Unit will send to your home the institution relevant acceptance letter that you used to apply for STUDENT VISA (all students must come with this type of visa), plus the necessary information to plan your trip to Valparaiso.

  18. Another step that is required is the purchase of medical insurance to cover the entire period, involved in the interchanges in Chile.


Exchange without agreement

If you want to apply to the Universidad de Valparaíso, without an agreement to free you from customs duty in this institution, apply as a student "free", and you can select one or more subjects of the regular programs of the UV, canceling for them a value that is set annually, in addition to the biannual registration. This presentation has the following objectives

Confirm your arrival to the country and ultimately their participation as international students at the University of Valparaiso.

Registration in the Database that requests by the Ministry of Education.

To guide students in areas of use during the period will remain in our university (the process of official registration of courses, accommodation, mobilization, etc.)

Important:

All foreign students must manage their student visa before entering Chile, otherwise it will be violating the Immigration Act, with legal consequences.

Once the permanent housing in Chile must be lodged with Police Research Viña del Mar or Valparaiso (depending on place of residence). This procedure must be done within 30 days from the date of arrival in the country.

    Contextualization

    Valparaíso, city of universities

    Valparaiso and Viña del Mar are considered some of the most important cultural and university centers in the country.

    They have an approximate population of seven hundred thousand inhabitants, and count with the necessary conditions to educate more than 83 thousand people at university level in the facilities located in both cities, the universities have developed a variety of cultural and artistic activities and also a whole branch of sports with specific facilities in order to entertain and educate their students, which is why so many students choose these cities to educate themselves.

    Located in a very well positioned area, the Valparaiso University is much related with the current environment of the city, behaving as an important support in the regional, national and international development of Valparaiso.

    How to go from Comodoro Arturo Benitez International Airport to Valparaiso?

    You can board a shuttle bus to Terminal “Pajaritos” (Hawks), which is located underground station name, or Santiago Bus Terminal and board a bus to Valparaiso or Viña del Mar.

    We recommend lowering the terminal Viña del Mar because it`s easier to navigate.

    • Travelling time from the station to the terminal Pajaritos Valparaiso is 1.30 hrs. The approximate price of the ticket is USD$ 10.00

    • From Viña del Mar to Valparaiso by minibus. The minibus lines pass through Liberty Avenue, Arlegui Street, 1 North Street and Avenue Spain by the coastline and the hills.

    Mobilization within the city

    • Micro (Bus): This is the cheapest way to get around the city, if the student has the card Student Transportation, the ticket cost is $ 130, Monday to Friday and between $ 220 and $ 300 weekends, irrespective of the distance of. If the student does not have the card the ticket cost will be between $ 300 and $ 600 depending on the distance of.
    • Trolley: this mode of transport used to move around the center of Valparaiso, also constitutes part of their cultural heritage. The ticket will cost $ 250 adult and $ 120 with Student Travel Card.

    Accommodation

    Pensions and Residential: Both in Valparaiso and Viña del Mar there are a number of pensions and residential college, most of them are close to the houses of study, so that the student avoids the expense of mobilization.     Convocatoria OUTGOING

    Para los alumnos de la Universidad de Valparaíso, la Movilidad Estudiantil Internacional de pregrado tiene como finalidad contribuir a su formación integral brindando herramientas para fortalecer sus competencias y desempeño profesional en un mundo globalizado, facilitando la realización de actividades con reconocimiento académico en universidades extranjeras, con las cuales la Corporación tiene convenios de cooperación vigentes, y en las que el estudiante deba cumplir con un programa de estudios previamente aprobado por la Dirección de la Carrera respectiva y posteriormente reconocido y homologado académicamente por ella.

    Calendario de Postulación

    • Para el intercambio durante el PRIMER SEMESTRE académico, la fecha límite de postulación es el 15 de octubre del año anterior al intercambio.*
    • Para el intercambio durante el SEGUNDO SEMESTRE académico, la fecha límite de postulación es el 15 de abril del año de intercambio.*

    *Confirmar fecha límite de postulación según universidad de destino.

    En febrero no se realiza atención de alumnos, debido al receso universitario.

    Requisitos

  • Espíritu emprendedor y proactivo

  • Ser alumno regular

  • Tener cursado y aprobado el 4º semestre de su carrera

  • No haber reprobado más de una asignatura durante sus años de estudios

  • Tener promedio de notas mínimo 5.0

  • Contar con el patrocinio de su carrera

  • Estar al día en sus compromisos financieros con la UV

  • Contar con financiamiento propio para realizar la actividad internacional

  • Las Carreras de Ingeniería Civil Biomédica e Ingeniería Civil Oceánica cuentan con requisitos específicos para la movilidad, los alumnos deben informarse al respecto

  • Procedimiento

  • Elige la universidad de destino según el listado de convenios vigentes

  • Investiga el curriculum de la carrera en esa Universidad

  • Presenta una propuesta académica formal (por escrito) a las autoridades de tu carrera para que evalúen si procede o no la homologación de las asignaturas que deseas cursar en el extranjero, señalando: asignaturas a cursar en el extranjero, programas de estudio de ellas y asignaturas que deberías cursar en la UV durante el periodo de intercambio.

  • Una vez que las autoridades de tu carrera aprueben las asignaturas que podrás cursar en el exterior, pasa a la siguiente etapa.

  • Presenta la postulación a la Unidad de Movilidad Internacional Estudiantil con los documentos requeridos

  • Una vez hecha la postulación en la Unidad de Movilidad Internacional Estudiantil se debe completar la postulación en la universidad extranjera. Existen distintos mecanismos, los que serán informados por la Unidad de Movilidad Internacional Estudiantil una vez revisada tu postulación en detalle y toda vez que se confirme que entregaste todos los documentos exigidos. De ser requeridos otros documentos por la contraparte en el extranjero, se te informará para que completes tu postulación

  • Una vez que hayas sido aceptado/a por la universidad extranjera

  • Actualizar tus certificados, en caso de ser necesario (por ejemplo, para incluir las notas finales obtenidas en el semestre recién terminado, nuevo certificado de biblioteca y certificado de deudas financieras)

  • Adquirir un seguro médico de cobertura total, válido en el país donde realizarás el intercambio (país destino) y por el período que dure la experiencia

  • Tramitar en el Consulado o Embajada correspondiente al país destino, la VISA de estudiante

  • Todos los alumnos de la Universidad de Valparaíso que participan en un programa de intercambio con el patrocinio de la institución, deben viajar con seguro médico de cobertura total y VISA de estudiante.

    Beca " De Excelencia Académica "

    La beca de excelencia académica es financiada con fondos provenientes del pago de arancel de alumnos libres extranjeros que ingresen a la Universidad de Valparaíso para cursar estudios de pregrado en ella. Esta beca tiene como objeto ayudar a los estudiantes a solventar algunos gastos asociados a la movilidad internacional, como pago de seguros, pasaporte, pasajes,etc.
